The Bard's Tale (Amiga)

Early Electronic Arts packaging was not just unique and elegant; it also housed some truly excellent and innovative games, back from an era when the company considered itself artful. Clever RPGs like cult favourite The Bard's Tale were the norm, and you can see what the norm was like by bidding on this eBay auction for a complete copy of The Bard's Tale (Amiga).

Then again, you obviously know all this, so, well, here's an eBay auction for Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Sega Megadrive). The game comes complete with manual in its original box.

Jupiter Cantab's Jupiter Ace

One of the more obscure 8-bit British micros, the Jupiter Ace was released in 1982 for £89.95, and was built around the Z80 processor and the FORTH language. It never sold in large quantities, and despite retaining quite a few followers to this very day, the Jupiter Ace is rare.

You can still bid on one via this Jupiter Ace eBay auction though. The computer on offer is fully working, and seems to be in great cosmetic condition too. It is accompanied by the power supply unit, the RF lead, and a book on FORTH.

ColecoVision & Games

The 1982 ColecoVision sold over four million units, supported 32 (!) hardware sprites, and had over 100 games published for it, yet never survived the US video games crash. Still, Coleco's machine is a wonderful and technically impressive console to collect for, and there are few better places to start from than this ColecoVision eBay auction.

The console on offer has been tested, and is working. It is also bundled with the bits you need to get it running, and 27 games (some of which are boxed). The games include Gorf, Atlantis, Pitfall!, Star Strike, and Q*Bert.

Super Mario Land (GameBoy)

The first Mario platformer I ever played was on the Nintendo Game Boy, and it was none other than the excellent and rather atypical Super Mario Land, a copy of which you could easily grab via this eBay auction. The cartridge on offer comes with its protective case, and manual.

SNES Mini & Games

Known as the SNES Mini, SNES Junior, or even SNES 2, the 1997-released console you see above is a compact, cuter version of the US Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Quite obviously it remains an excellent 16-bit console, and you can bid on one via this SNES Mini auction on eBay. The console has been fully tested, comes with all required leads and things, a controller, and six cartridges including Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario Kart, and Zelda: A Link To The Past.

Enterprise 64: Boxed and Wonderful

The last of the British 8-bit micros, the Enterprise by Intelligent Systems, despite being a solid micro that also offered ZX Spectrum compatibility and a rather odd built-in joystick, was released far too late. It simply stood no chance when faced with the Amiga and Atari ST. Its impressive 672x512 high-res graphics and 256 colours could not save it from becoming a rare computer to collect.

It's quite rare to see one of those on eBay too, but here's a finely preserved, boxed Enterprise 64 up for auction. It has been tested and is fully working, and comes complete with 128k of RAM, PSU, leads, BASIC cartridge, polys, and manual.

Sinclair 128k ZX Spectrum +2 by Amstrad

Many of us hated the fact that Amstrad grabbed Sinclair for pennies, and essentially murdered its innovative soul, but we do have to admit that the ZX Spectrum +2 was a fine, affordable, and very handy micro. It was also unashamedly gaming focused, played nice with monitors and joysticks, sported all the extra 128k model goodies, had a decent keyboard, was properly reliable, and you can grab a fully working one via this ZX Spectrum +2 eBay auction.

The computer on offer comes with two manuals, all required cables, PSU, and a joystick. It is also accompanied by several (boxed) games and utilities including brilliant scrolling beat-'em-up Target; Renegade, classic budget title Super Sprint, and educational package Micro Maths.

Quake (PC)

The follow-up to DOOM, the final id game John Romero worked on, and a definitive classic that shaped the FPS for years to come, Quake is an amazing and truly ground-breaking game. It also happens to be a fantasy-horror shooter that has aged too gracefully, and one you can grab in its big lovely box via this Quake (PC) eBay auction. It's the original UK release, and it comes complete in its box.

Floppies for the CPC 6128

The lovely, durable 3" floppy disks the Amstrad CPC 6128 utilized, were difficult to find even as early as the early '90s, and have been getting unsurprisingly trickier to get a hold of since then. Handily, this eBay auction will get you 10 diskettes neatly packed in their box for your CPC. And, yes, they can also be used on your Spectrum +3.
